The Many Qualities of Adhesive Vinyl Print

Vinyl printing is one of the most versatile and commonly used types of print utilized in the creation of signs and large images today. As well as being used on signs, vinyl print is seen all over the city on cars, trucks, busses, windows and walls. Chances are you have already used vinyl print for your business. Here is a few reasons why…

    Cost Effective

Compared to other products available on the market today, vinyl printing is among the least expensive short-run  graphic production methods. The fact that vinyl needs to be applied to a substrate Is the only reason it is more expensive then direct-to-substrate printing. Yet the quality and durablity of the print makes up for the difference in cost. There are a variety of vinyls available allowing you to use a less expensive vinyl for temporary events or promotions or high quality vinyls for long term use.

    Weather Resistant

The fact that vinyl can resist harsh weather conditions is why it is the #1 choice of businesses that need outdoor signage. It can resist heavy rain, wind, heat, and the Canadian cold. Our inks are Eco-solvent and therefore water resistant and hold up very well under direct sunlight . Clear vinyl laminate overlays are used to protect the printed image from airborne dust. There are different grades of vinyl available offering varied exterior life expectancy rates ranging for 1 to 10 years. making vinyl practical for temporary or long term use.

One of the great things about adhesive vinyl prints is that they can go on glass, metal, plastic or just about any other surface. Sealed wood or concrete? No problem. All of the bases of your project are covered. That is why we use it for signs. We print the vinyl and apply it to a wide rage of substrates, many of which you may be familiar with: Coroplast, PVC, Acrylic, Styrene, Foamboard, Plywood, Aluminum etc. – allowing us to provide a full range of signs.

Vinyl is not limited to most flat surfaces. Wrap vinyls are available to handle contours and shapes. Not only can cars and trucks become advertising space but so can fridges, bulkheads, TV props, toolboxes and so on. Removable vinyl is available for surfaces you want to label with a temporary message or change on a regular basis. Honestly, what more can you ask for?

    Image Quality

Digital printing on vinyl is a full-colour process, allowing you  to reproduce photographic images and multiple colours in one pass without affecting cost. We are running images at 720dpi. Printing 1/8” legible white type on a colour background is not an issue.  If your image enlarges well, it will print well. We can print a maximum of 52” x 150’ in one piece. From big wall murals to small decals – vinyl printing can do it all.

It is easy to create neat special effects with vinyl by using clear, transparant or metallic overlays or laminates. You can create reflections or tricks of the eye to make your signs stand out to the public. Because vinyl print lettering is applied directly to a surface, it will retain the look of that surface as a background, allowing for some interesting designs.

Vinyl is a great way to go for your business for many reasons, but most of all because of its versatility. Use on it on your restaurant, retail office space, or anywhere you happen to need it. It can resist weather conditions, go on any surface, and be modified to look great. Visit your local Toronto vinyl printing experts today and see for yourself!

    The Benefits Of Window Lettering

New small businesses often open on a tight budget.

There’s a lot you need to spend your money on to get your business up and running, all without knowing if your new endeavour is going to be successful. To make matters worse, things normally need to come together in a very short amount of time. It can be quite frightening!

But don’t worry; the experts here at Burry Signs have a suggestion that can hopefully help.

We all know signs are a tried and true advertising medium. Often I hear my clients tell me they acquired a new client as soon as their sign went up. We’ve even had passers by stop us mid-installation to ask us about the new store opening in the neighbourhood.

Storefront signs can be expensive, and we at Burry Signs understand that you need to get your name out in order for the money to start rolling in. That’s why we suggest window lettering if you’re looking for a good place to start.

Most storefronts have window space that allows prospective and returning clients to look through. Why not use your window for the perfect eye-level sign? Since window lettering is applied to the glass, you don’t have to buy an expensive panel to display your name. Window lettering also offers you the flexibility of either a semi-permanent solution or a permanent sign solution depending on your needs.

When window lettering is well applied, it can last for up to twenty years. However, window lettering is also simple to remove; you simply scrape it off. This means you can test lettering options, logos, and designs for your business without spending a fortune or having to commit to a design permanently. Window lettering is also designed to allow window-shoppers to be able to view the inside of your store, or you can have it made to hide your interior if you so choose.

The best part of window lettering is that it won’t blow your budget. In most cases professional window lettering will cost you a few hundred dollars, as opposed to a few thousand for a storefront sign. This way you not only get your name out to customers, but also do it at an affordable price.

For some clients, window lettering is all they need, while for others it makes a great initial stepping stone in their advertising and branding endeavours.

Whatever your signage needs, the experts at Burry Signs are here to help. Give us a call today at 416-778-7514.

  • When to use Acrylic for a Reception Sign

When to use Acrylic for a Reception Sign

    Reception signs

Reception Signs need to be made of products that can be finished to perfection since they are displayed like furniture in high end office settings. They speak for the professionalism of the company they portray and usually are viewed from a couple feet away. Acrylic boosts the characteristics necessary to produce and finish a office reception sign any company would be proud to display.

Acrylic can be laser cut. Unlike a router, laser cutting produces nice tight inside corners and finished edges, since it does not use a tool bit leaving rounded inside corners or tool marks on the edge. The laser beam is very thin leaving the inside shape of a’s and e’s as well as the 90 degree corners found in many other letters perfectly shaped. The heat from the laser melts and polishes the edge of the letter during the cutting process. No tool marks can be seen.
Acrylic can be professionally painted. Most brands require pantone colour matching. The paint systems available today provide high quality paint finishes and colour matching. You can even specify the sheen to be glossy, semi-gloss or matte. The pantone colours are formulated much like paints bought at home supply stores. To date I have not had a customer complain about a colour matched using the system.
Acrylic is available in a variety of thicknesses and can be glued. Very useful when producing a logo that needs to be layered (as above). You can mix up the thicknesses of the different layers creating a more interesting 3D logo.

Acrylic can be drilled and tapped. Meaning, metal studs and spacers can be used on the back of the lettering, allowing it to be installed on the surface with some space between the mounting surface and the letter. A very nice touch!

Not all logos should be produced in acrylic. If you want a metal finish I recommend you use metal. Acrylic will never be able to replicate metal finishes without looking fake. Logo’s with fine lines and detail should also be done in metal. Acrylic is brittle and can be broken during the assemble or installation process. If you want a colour logo and do not have any logo details to be concerned about acrylic is an excellent material for an office reception sign.

If you are in the market for an office reception sign Burry Signs would be happy to help you!

Give Your Business an Eye-catching Sign

A professionally crafted, eye-catching sign not only identifies the location of your business, but combines advertising, marketing and branding in one. A well-designed sign with an attractive logo can tell customers and passerby about your business, what it does, and what it stands for all in one shot.

The sign tells them not only where your business is located, but helps establish your brand.

Some markers of an eye catching sign include:

    -Bold and bright colours.

    -Striking images.

    -Attention to font selection.

-It fits the tone and vibe of your establishment.

Design elements for a business sign include text, colors, and images. Using these, our expert designers can create a sign that’s practically impossible to walk by without noticing. A memorable sign potentially means new customers, and a great sign should always be part of your advertising strategy.

A sign that pops can draw in people, while a nondescript one blends into the background, which deters customers from entering your shop on a whim. So it’s important that when looking for a quality storefront sign to leave it to the experts.

Your business sign is the chance to make a lasting first impression on prospective clients. As such, it offers an opportunity which should be used well, to promote your products and services as well as to share your vision.

If you’re looking to get a sign that pops, be sure to contact the sign and design experts here at Burry Signs Studio Inc. a call at: (416) 778-7514.

How to Create Outlines in Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator is a powerful application that is extremely useful in designing all types of graphics, including customized signs for retail businesses. One of its useful functions is to turn text into graphics, which can then free it from being linked to a particular font. This is done by outlining the font.

The main advantage of outlining a font in Illustrator is to prevent a font from substituting when you move a file from one system to another. Once the font is outlined the type becomes artwork and the font is no longer needed in a different system.

Here’s how to outline a font in Illustrator:

    1. Select all or Select the type on the page you would like to outline

Note: type shows with blue line under type.

    1. Go to “Type” drop down Menu and select “create outlines”

Note: type now shows with blue line around each letter.

Keep in mind – once the font is outlined the type setting functions no longer exist.

Ensure you keep a master with the font not outlined encase you need to make some copy changes.

  • Modern Retail Sign Technology
    07/04/15 News

    Modern Retail Sign Technology

There is no question that having the right type of retail sign is essential for every business. However, with so many businesses out there it can be difficult to make your sign stand out from all the rest. The good news is that there are a number of modern techniques and technologies available to create the right sign for your business, and Burry Signs is at the cutting edge of all of them.

    Computer Assisted Design

One of the most prevalent techniques used for developing modern retail signs is computer design technology. Computers certainly help take the guess work out of signage by providing a better visual of your sign before it is built. If it is a storefront sign you are after, a good building frontage picture is all that is necessary to Photoshop your new sign in so it looks like it already exists. Car and Truck graphics can be Photoshopped too!

Computers also make it easier to communicate during the design process. Most, if not all of the design process can be done right at your own desktop through email. We can even talk material choices through pictures of previously completed projects. Samples can be sent to you if you need a hands-on sample, including colour proofs. Of course, you will be provided with a final proof for your approval, before your sign goes into production. The techniques we have developed through the use of computers has made the design process more visual, accurate and convenient. We would be happy to guide you through the experience.

    Computer Aided Production

The files you supply or the proofs we provide will be used for the actual production of your signage. Laser cutters, Water Jet systems, routers, vinyl cutters and digital printing equipment all run directly off the files. What you see on your screen comes to life. Yes, there can be some hiccups. The human mind cannot be taken out of the process yet. Computers are smart but when it comes to things as complicated as colour our rational mind is still needed. That is what we are here for. Experience has taught us what to watch out for regarding the limits of computer technology. It is our job to share that knowledge with you.

    Sign Design Tip

Keep it simple! Signs are read at a glance. You need your message to be clean and to the point to be powerful and effective. Don’t clutter it up in a effort to say everything about your business or product. If you sell hotdogs, say it. Not hotdogs sold here as you wait, $2.50, heated bun, phone number, website, pop, coffee, condiments. I think you get the picture (Another tip, a picture speak a thousand words). Make your sign strong so it works for you at a glance. There are other places you can promote the rest of the information.
