We have been designing and printing signs long before the first digital printer came on the market. We bought one of the first printers available in toronto – learned how to use it and developed a product line many other sign companies were soon to follow.
Since that day in 1967 when our father became the owner Burry Signs has been an industry leader, being among the first to work with today’s new technologies creating techniques, products and services in the ever-changing world of sign and graphic reproduction. Over time, we have developed an extensive product line and a network of contacts with specialty suppliers to further improve our capabilities in creating custom signs and print for companies in Toronto, Markham and surrounding areas.
Our Father purchased the business from Mr. Burry. The two men were connected through their skill – hand lettering. Our Father was employed by Simpson in downtown Toronto while Mr. Burry worked as a self employed man close by taking on extra work our father could not handle. When Mr. Burry was ready to retire he approached our father with an offer to purchase his business. After many sleepless nights and conversations I still remember as a small girl our father chose to buy Burry Signs. Thanks Dad!
As we grew so did Burry Signs. First it was our Mother – Janet – that joined our father – Tony. She looking after the books and handling the phone so our dad could meet his deadlines. I am sure he was happy to have company in his pursuit. Soon, one by one all of their children joined them. With the strength of a family unit we faced the technology changes that were to come and built the business to support 4 families and two grandchildren as well as our mother and father.
Today – I am said to say – our father is no longer with us. He passed on March 8th, 2018. Our mother is now retired living in the country with Craig – her son. Burry Signs lives on through 3 children – Carmen, Craig and Dean. The brushes and calligraphy pens have been replaced by computers, printers and plotters. Burry Signs is more then a business it is a family dedicated to uphold the strong reputation of Burry Signs. A reputation each family member built with their own hands one sign at a time.
